Why Are Women Always Apologizing?

I conducted an experiment to see how many times I would hear women say “sorry” over the span of one day. I lost count by 10am. Before I even left my building, I encountered a woman saying “sorry” in the elevator for her dog smelling my shoes. By the time I walked to work, grabbed a cup of coffee, and sat at my desk I heard the word used another three times for actions that did not warrant an apology. It seems that women have replaced the words “excuse me” with “sorry” and this needs to stop. Women should not be apologizing for their dog smelling my shoes, or for asking a question, or for bumping someone in the arm; the phrase for these actions is excuse me, not I’m sorry. Clearly I’m not the only one who has noticed this apologizing craze and in June of 2014, Pantene released an advertisement called “Not Sorry.” Their #shinestong campaign showcases the overuse of the word “sorry” and is a real eye-opener. Watch it below and let me know what you think in the comments section.
In addition, I had some girlfriends over last weekend and we watched this Pantene Ad. Here is what they had to say about women constantly apologizing.
